ABOUT THIS ONLINE COURSE

PART I – STEAM TRAPS

Steam traps serve to discharge condensate from steam piping or steam heating equipment without allowing live steam to escape.

Presence of condensate can reduce the operating efficiency of the system and may also physical damage due to water hammer or corrosion.

Part I will illustrate the main components of the various steam trap designs and how these devices work

PART II – STRAINERS

Piping systems are provided with strainers to protect equipment sensitive to dirt and other particles that may be carried by the fluid. During system start-up and flushing, strainers may be used upstream or pumps and control valves to protect them from construction debris that might be left over in the pipe.

Part II of the course will focus on strainers, illustrate the main components of the various strainer designs and how these devices work

PART III – INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

While it is obviously impossible to address every installation mistake ever
made, part III of the course is a short summary of the most frequent installation mistakes encountered in the field.

  • Understand the construction details and principles of operation of steam traps (float, thermostatic, thermodynamic, inverted bucket…)
  • Understand the construction details and principles of operation of strainers (wye and basket types)
  • Chemical, Process and Piping Engineers
  • Plant Operators
  • Mechanics
The student who will gain the most from this course will come equipped with some knowledge of fluid systems and an acquaintance with process valves. For these reasons, we strongly recommend that prior to taking the present course, you attend first our courses :
